Website Design
One of my many hobbies is Website Design, this one being my latest update to what was a rather old design from a ready made template which did not offer much in the way of changing some elements.
I have tried most web design software programs like Dreamweaver a favourite with a large following, but found it hard work and not to my liking. Microsoft FrontPage was an early WYSIWYG design package that started the ball rolling and was easy to learn, but again had Microsoft extensions built in to the programming and carried far too much excess coding which was burdensome when uploading to my web space. Net Objects Fusion was an excellent software package, which I used a lot, it had a massive library of templates to choose from and also very easy to use. The one drawback to this package was the inability to easily edit the html coding, but nonetheless a worthwhile candidate.
Always looking to improve on my design technique, I started reading up on CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) a way to control page content by declaring all the required fonts, parameters for paragraphs etc and in laymen's language, how to standardise all the page content on each page of the site, so giving it a uniformity. The beauty of this being that you only have to alter a required parameter in the style sheet to have it automatically alter each web page accordingly. I then went searching for a basic html editor with which to try out this new technique and settled for Expression Web by Microsoft. This software also has a built in CSS facility and is easy to change coding as you work. The result is that this web site has been designed using Expression Web and a CSS Style sheet. The html content of the pages is minimal and is a joy to work with, after a few days finding my way around.
