Welcome to Lightning's Lair

Current Activities:
Not much happening at this time, mainly due to the inclement weather and not being able to enjoy outdoor pursuits. I spend quite a bit of my time, doing image retouching and restoration of old photographs, so thought it about time I ventured in to the world of graphics tablets, seemingly much more versatile and greater precision than the mouse. After much time researching what would suit me, came up with this model a Wacom Bamboo pen tablet which is on order. Will write a review of my findings after the item has arrived and I have had a bit of practice.

Review:  I think I got a good deal from Amazon, as checked the following day and the price had gone up by £11. Item arrived safely taking less time than advertised, so got the gear out of the box, read the instructions and loaded the software drivers, connected the tablet and it worked perfectly from the start. Followed the tutorial and found it easy  enough to get the basics of how to use the pen. I'm quite pleased with the use of the tablet and pen for photo and imaging work, very precise compared to a mouse, and integrated into Photoshop without any problems.
I'm not sure about using the  pen as a replacement mouse however as it requires a lot more movement of the hand across the tablet, so will stick with the mouse for everyday navigation. The pen has a two position switch which can be set up for personal functions, although it is default set to scroll and right click, I found the switch was very hard to operate easily and in my opinion, not required for what I wanted the tablet for. Conclusion is that it is well worth the money for using as a graphic and drawing/painting tool for precision work and that is what my intentions were from the outset. Very easy to use plug and play device.
